Beta
History
In 1974, 4 gentlemen
in the sheet metal
industry decided to
start a company
manufacturing sheet
metal parts and a new
type of material called
"Laminated Sheet Metal".
The name of the company
was "Blaisdell East",
located in Norwalk,
Connecticut, as they
were the East Coast
partner of Blaisdell
located in California.
The company started with
just a small order for
military steel insoles
and a lot of
determination.
Shortly after forming
the new partnership,
they had a chance to
start manufacturing
stamped sheet metal
parts for
Sikorsky Aircraft.
The relationship with
Sikorsky blossomed over
the years and other
aerospace customers were
entered into the growing
business.
In 1985, the
company name change to
Beta Shim Company.
Over the next couple of
years, 3 owners of
Beta Shim Company
were bought out by the
4th owner, John McCue.
By this time, Beta Shim
Company's primary
customer was Sikorsky
Aircraft, but they also
had
Lockheed Martin,
Pratt & Whitney,
Hamilton Sundstrand,
Northrop Grumman,
Electric Boat,
BMW, and many
more government
contracts.
In 1995 John McCue
moved Beta Shim Company
to Shelton Connecticut,
in a 20,000 sqft
building, to be closer
to their primary
customer Sikorsky
Aircraft, located in
Stratford Connecticut.
Over the next 10 years,
Beta Shim doubled in
employment and revenue
adding over 500
customers to their
yearly revenue.
The Beta Shim catalog
now includes Laminated
Sheet Metal, Military
Stainless Steel Insoles,
Metal Stampings, Milling
Machining, Bushings,
Light Assembly, and
Military Packaging.
Logistics
History
In 1995, Beta Shim
Company was selling to
the US Government which
required Mil Spec
packaging. There
was an opportunity for
Beta Shim to acquire a
packaging house based
out of Norwalk
Connecticut called "Pack
Rite". Over the
years, Beta Shim
received numerous
packaging jobs from
various companies.
In November of
2003, Sikorsky Aircraft
came to the door steps
of Beta Shim looking for
a solution for their
Spares department to
have a supplier perform
Mil Spec packaging for
their growing division.
Beta Shim took on the
task with just 3 packers
and 500 sqft.
Within the next couple
of months, packaging
grew so rapidly that it
was time to move the
packaging to a different
building. The
packaging department
moved a few building
over in Shelton in a
35,000 sqft building.
The following August,
Sikorsky cam to Beta
Shim looking for another
solution. This
time they wanted to
outsource their
Receiving Department.
We agreed to take on
this task and started
the next day.
After 1 year of starting
this new task, the
packaging division had
become its' own entity
outside the normal scope
of Beta Shim.
In July of 2006,
Beta Shim Company
Packaging Division
became Beta Logistics
LLC. We legally
separated the two
companies and moved to
Milford Connecticut into
a 50,000 sqft facility
with room to expand into
600,000 sqft.
It has been a long
and winding road to get
to where we are now and
we look forward to every
curve that might lie
ahead of us.
